If I wanted a tiny wifi device I'd use on of my 5 other tiny devices that can pick up wifi signals. I want to be online all the time. ALL THE TIME. Not when I'm near a Starbucks.

Honestly I would prefer to be online all the time as well, but I'm not willing to change cell phone providers and pay a much higher bill each month to do it. Fuck At&t and fuck Apple for cornering the market on good touch screen phone technologies.

3GS has more storage space and, from what I understand by reading reviews, can run the bigger applications a lot faster. There are other features (a compass on the 3GS) but that's kind of the jist of it.
I use my iPhone for a lot of gaming, so the faster speed is kind of a temptation to me, but so far I haven't had debilitating problems with any games or aps with just the 3G.
Because of battery life I would probably never use my iPhone as a iPod (I already have an iPod and just keep the bugger in my other pocket) so the 8 GB 3G is plenty of storage for me. If you would like your iPhone to become your all-in-one device consider getting one of the 3GS's.
I would also recommend, just for santity sake, of playing around with someone else's iPhone for a day or so before chosing to make the commitment yourself. I love the thing, but at times it is obviously a tiny computer first and a cell phone second. Sometimes computer snafus can get in the way of the cell phone.
But like I said, I love the thing.

Alright, I got the 8gb 3G, and I really like it so far. And it was only $100 - not too shabby. The extra $100 for the 16gb 3GS didn't quite seem worth it.
