Reminder: Chris does not like Forrest Gump and thinks Terminator is better than Terminator 2  Colbert

I DO like Forrest Gump. I happen to find it sacchrine (sp?) and manipulative, but I still like it.

There Will Be Blood
****

As of today, this movie is about one year old, having been released at the tail end of 2007 in order to be elligible for the 80th Annual Academy Awards. A movie's greatness usually takes a long time to set in. After all, movies that were once considered great have lost their sparkling sheen and have been subjected, finally, to valid criticism, such as Crash or Out Of Africa. Both movies won Best Picture for their years and both are considered by many to be overrated at this point. Out of Africa especially.

I cannot say that There Will Be Blood is overrated. In fact, I find it to be underrated, merely because it was beaten by No Country For Old Men for Best Picture, and because there are actual existing bad reviews for this film. Much like The Deer Hunter or Jaws, There Will Be Blood is a movie that has absolutely no faults.

Long running time? So what? Lots of movies are long. It doesn't matter how long a movie is, but how long a movie FEELS. Roger Ebert (who I rarely agree with otherwise) once used the term "Cinematic ADD" in his review for Jackie Brown for people who complain about long running times in good movies (my views on Jackie Brown are not relevant to this quotation). If a movie is absolutely perfect, it should go on for as long as it possibly can whilst still being perfect. If a movie is utter garbage, it had better not be any longer than sixty-five minutes.

The movie is open to so many different interperatations as well. I've found myself discussing on a continuing basis with no fewer than five people the meaning of characters actions and what their motivations are. Was this character telling the truth when he said this or was he lying out of spite? Etc. Etc. The movie is open to many different interperatations as I have said, but in no way is it vague. If it were vague, people would be WONDERING why characters did certain things or acted a certain way or said a certain thing. But as it happens, each person I know who has seen this movie (and this is not a hyperbole when I say "each person") knows exactly why characters did certain things or acted a certain way or said a certain thing. It just so happens that the person sitting next to them KNEW something different.

Enough has been said about Daniel Day-Lewis' phenominal performance as Daniel Plainview to fill thirteen hardbound volumes of critical praise, and all of it is true, but not enough has been said about Paul Dano. The performance of Eli Sunday by Paul Dano is one hell of a spectacle. He plays his Eli in the same way that Day-Lewis plays his Plainview, from subtle and laid back to over-the-top and manic. The difference is that Day-Lewis' does that change throughout the course of the film in a steady course from A to B, while Dano's performance is more of a series of mood swings. Some are extremely sudden, and some come in the middle of a sermon, conducted by Dano as the preacher Eli.

This movie is currently my favourite of all time While I am fickle and one or two movies may drop off and be added back onto that list at any given time, There Will Be Blood has remained at the top of my list since I first saw it. When I saw this movie in the theater with a friend, we were both so stunned that we just SAT there and watched as the credits rolled, and didn't get out of our chairs or say a word until the lights went up.

See it, and love it; it is perfect in every way. The pacing is perfect. The editing is perfect. The cinematography is perfect. The acting is perfect. The music is perfect. The writing is perfect. It is the crowning achievement of cinema as an art form.

Haha yes I was that friend that just sat there and watched the credits role. Seriously, it was about all I could manage at that time. I agree, There Will Be Blood is perfect. I haven't seen No Country for Old Men, but I will say what I first said when I saw Blood - I can't imagine how anything could be better than it.

I think I need to see There Will Be Blood again to get a full appreciation of it.  As for No Country for Old Men, I definitely agree that There Will Be Blood was the better film.

I just saw valkyrie and was thoroughly unimpressed with any aspect of it. The most interesting thing to see was watching the Nazi command try to sort of react around Hitler's whims and rages but that was not enough to save the movie. It wasn't just bad, it was boring.

I didn't think it was so bad. I found myself earnestly routing for Tom Cruise and co. even though the most basic of historical knowledge made that outcome impossible. And I mean, its not like I was watching Inglorious Basterds, so hey.

I agree it did have a tendency to drag a big, but I didn't think it was boring. To each is own, I guess.

The best part of the movie was Tom Cruise speaking awful German at the beginning.

Just watched "Role Models" and "The Hangover" again, am thoroughly satisfied, and will continue to watch them.  Especially "The Hangover."

Dude, I'm so excited to go see Predators, I don't even want to talk about it.

I'm going to love it. Or cry.

BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT INCEPTION PLEASE.

OH OH OH AND THIS PROMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OIE56_BSnQ

AND HOW MAYBE CHRISTOPHER NOLAN MADE THIS MOVIE WITH MEGAN ELISABETH RUSSELL IN MIND.

p.s. i don't care that its a fanvid, it still excites me.

I just watched "Lean on Me" starring Morgan Freeman.  The plot developed really quickly...a bit too quickly...the overall dialogue was kinda lackluster, but then again, all of the dialogue was basically a set-up for Morgan Freeman's Joe Clark's earth-shattering speeches.  Overall, I enjoyed it though.

That's funny I totally watched that last night, too! I definitely liked it, only laughed out loud once. Also, Travis from Cougar Town was the gay kid she fake has sex with and that was awesome! It got a little too herp derp at the end for my liking, but I guess not everything can be Mean Girls. Thomas Haden Church was funny, though, and I loved her parents. Freakin Stanley Tucci is my favourite.

Inception was awesome.  Loved that shit. It bothers me though how I hear a lot of people rag on the movie because they weren't paying attention to it so they don't know whats going on.
