Couple of my buddies are starting a newspaper in Philly. They needed some illustrations done and they thought to themselves "Who do we know who owns a lot of pens and works for next to nothing".

Nick Elmer.

Anyway, here's a sample, this is for an article about Healthcare.

The Inquirer just declared bankruptcy, and they're starting a newspaper?

Ballsy.

I clicked that date one before I read the description and thought it was for an article about Obama dating.

The paper actually exists! It's a free paper out of Germantown and came out on Friday. Hopefully it'll keep up (I've draw two more pictures for this week's paper as well).

Most papers have been dying, yes, but the super local ones haven't been doing poorly and since the whole thing is produced by three people (excluding me) there is very little investment. I'm trying to be hopeful but realistic about the situation.

Working on the third issue now. The guy funding the paper has decided to give it a dual theme...

We've been getting our copies at the Wawa in Mount Airy, but it's mainly found in the Germantown area. They've actually been getting emailed responses! People are actually reading the thing! (kinda encouraging)

Thanks!

Art people! I'm supposed to send the publisher an invoice for my work. How does one go about that? How do I figure out how much to charge (keeping in mind that they are poor and my art is terrible)?

I don't really know anything about invoices, sorry. If they're your friends, you probably don't want to charge them very much.

Do you have any ideas for the abortion thing yet?

Heeeeey... so my buddies were supposed to get paid for their 2+ weeks of services for this paper. You know, writing all the articles, doing all the layouts, scheduling interviews and taking photos. That stuff. Well, they got their checks for $140.00 (which is NOT what they were promised) and all promptly quit.

They've suggested I still send out my invoice to the guy but I really don't feel like dealing with the fucker.
