man oh man i listened to broken bells for a good month straight
the new crystal castles hasn't grown on me like the first one did
hear ya on edward sharpe as well. especially the first two songs
NEW BLACK KEYS. my best friend's boyfriend bought it on vinyl or something and she was talking about his collection and i was just like YOU LIVE IN BROOKLYN AND YOU ARE A HIPSTER. but it's good
and florence.. my studiomate gave me the cd back in february and it was fucking incredible for about the same month as broken bells and still is whenever i remember to listen to it
what else what else
au revoir simone.. three brooklyn ladies who when combined embody every indie girl stereotype ever. very poppy and happy and tons of synth but i still like it a lot
the new new pornographers... is okay. hit or miss for me, but i'm still seeing them in august because i am going to get onstage and propose to neko case, whose MIDDLE CYCLONE has been my winter, spring, and summer music. almost nonstop, intermixed with tons of 90s r&b and pop while i was getting ready for prom. also special guest the dodos, HELLO
I FUCKING HATE SHE AND HIM. but after i propose to neko m. ward is next. if she says no. even if she says yes. they already know each other and will probably submit to me being a bigamist. anyways i recently got his first album and died happily.
i think i might've mentioned this in my last post but i am too lazy to go check. i have become a huge yo la tengo fan. popular songs and i'm not afraid of you and i will beat your ass...... if i need encouragement all i do is turn on pass the hatchet and go get shit done and drown in bliss around the seven minute mark. makes me feel like i'm 35+ though. they started in 1984 and i ran into two of my professors at the concert :/

agreed, the new CC album lacks what the first one had, I figured at first if I gave it time it'd grow on me like some other artists, as I didn't fall in love with it immediately like I did for the first CD, but It just hasn't .. set. I'll be curious to see how they fare live in a few weeks.

I'm delving further into the world of 70's funk/jazz. This has led me to Herbie Mann, an American jazz flautist. He's dead now, but he cut a lot of albums and his session drummers have included Steve Gadd and Bernard Purdie, 2 of the groovinest mofo's to ever sit behind the kit. He also tooled around with Middle Eastern scales, which I absolutely love. I'm currently in love with the album "First Light" he cut with a band called the Family of Mann...from what I can tell they weren't a band very long...maybe kinda like a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention thing. Unfortunately, it's a relatively rare album, and I can't even find YouTube links with examples (it's not even on the iTunes store =/). So I'll just say: trust me, this stuff grooves hard. I've also been listening to this Company of Thieves song a lot because my band will cover it with our guest singer on Friday. The members of the band exemplify just about everything I think of when I think of goddamned hipsters, but the song is pretty okay.

Just got obsessed with Edward Sharpe yesterday. So good. I'm such a whore for a slight country twang.

haha i said non-stop like 8 times. well whatever
i get really self-conscious about having music on in the gallery when i'm working because it's right in the middle of the building and even if no one can hear it (weird acoustics) i always imagine it's super loud for everyone around and they're judging me. so i always end up resorting to 93.1 JAMZ, Madtown's #1 Hip Hop Station streaming from my computer because it's like, if you're going to get judged.... might as well get judged for something you have no control over.. also at that point i think i might be trying to be the teeniest bit antagonistic. but again, no one can actually hear me anyway
plus they do this thing every lunch hour called throwback lunch that is my reason for getting up before noon. all 90s, early 00s hits. i would be seriously happy with a radio station that played nothing but hip hop/rap/r&b oldies. it would be called ginger's radio station and it would be staffed entirely by hipsters who specialize in pop music so it would have that edge. ha

i saw the arcade fire and spoon last night ! they were at the mann music center in philly and my sister's friend had an extra ticket. we had lawn seats so we could sit and still somehow see everything, cloudy skies but it didn't rain, it was cold and felt like fall. best night ever ! spoon sounded better than i was expecting (i've never been a huge fan of spoon) and the arcade fire was sooooooo good. the layers in their music sound great in person. the were lively and energetic but never too much. love the new stuff, loved hearing neon bible stuff, a song or two from FUNERAL even, and the last song they played was the really popular one from where the wild things are. it was so good and so fun and i love music so freaking much for making me a happy person

weird, i'm like in love with it. keep listening, listening listening. i like track 2 and track 5 and 13 and 15 ! like a lot. things about it i like : there's a solid, decipherable concept. it resonates with experience and communicates feeling. it is real and human and not bs. how often are you able to find all that in indie music ?? (most of the time, you can't )

it's not bs and people are excited about that and new stuff in general and that's why they hit #1 on the charts last week. also why gaga has become the lady to beat
